چکیده

This study addresses the diversity of deep soil beetles on old continental island Madagascar. We highlight Coleoptera as only order insects repeatedly occupying (=endogean) habitat. describe and illustrate flotation technique used during our fieldwork in Madagascar December 2019. focus method’s high-output mobile technicalities. document 51 samples, each about 20 litres volume, taken by us varying Malagasy localities (Andringitra, Road RN7, Ankaratra, Andasibe) habitats (primary forest versus grassland). provide a preliminary illustrated overview 1,430 sampled us. They include representatives Carabidae (Anillini, Reicheiina), Leiodidae, Staphylinidae (Aleocharinae, Euaesthetinae, Osoriinae, Paederinae, Pselaphinae, Scydmaeninae), Scarabaeidae, Tenebrionidae Curculionidae. emphasize significant disparity between collecting adult endogean dozen their larvae, all belonging to Scydmaeninae.

In or Out-of-Madagascar?—Colonization Patterns for Large-Bodied Diving Beetles (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae)

High species diversity and endemism within Madagascar is mainly the result of species radiations following colonization from nearby continents or islands. Most of the endemic taxa are thought to be descendants of a single or small number of colonizers that arrived from Africa sometime during the Cenozoic and gave rise to highly diverse groups. This pattern is largely based on vertebrates and a ...

Dense taxonomic EST sampling and its applications for molecular systematics of the Coleoptera (beetles).

Expressed sequence tag (EST) sequences can provide a wealth of data for phylogenetic and genomic studies, but the utility of these resources is restricted by poor taxonomic sampling. Here, we use small EST libraries (<1,000 clones) to generate phylogenetic markers across a broad sample of insects, focusing on the species-rich Coleoptera (beetles). We sequenced over 23,000 ESTs from 34 taxa, whi...

Partial faunistic study of beetles (Arthropoda: Coleoptera) in Taleqan region (Iran) and their mite associates

The faunistic investigation of beetles has been of a great importance in Iran due to the impresive diversity of species, which is highly promoted by the climatic variation of the Country. Therefore, detection of the ingenious regions, such as Taleqan, is important. In this study, mite-related beetles which were sampled from different areas of Taleqan were investigated and 14 species belonging t...

Deforestation and apparent extinctions of endemic forest beetles in Madagascar

Madagascar has lost about half of its forest cover since 1953 with much regional variation, for instance most of the coastal lowland forests have been cleared. We sampled the endemic forest-dwelling Helictopleurini dung beetles across Madagascar during 2002-2006. Our samples include 29 of the 51 previously known species for which locality information is available. The most significant factor ex...

Origin and Diversification of Dung Beetles in Madagascar

Madagascar has a rich fauna of dung beetles (Scarabaeinae and Aphodiinae) withalmost 300 species described to date. Like most other taxa in Madagascar, dung beetles exhibit an exceptionally high level of endemism (96% of the species). Here,we review the current knowledge of the origin and diversification of Malagasy dung beetles. Based on molecular phylogenies, the extant dung beetles originate...
